🌊 River

Upė Neris

Vilnius – Kernavė – Jonava – Kaunas

The Neris is the largest right-bank tributary of the Nemunas: 510 km long, 237.8 km of it in Lithuania. It rises in Belarus, north of Minsk, flows through Nemenčinė, Vilnius, Kernavė and Jonava, and joins the Nemunas in Kaunas. Typical depth is 1–2 m, 1–3 m near Kaunas. Its main tributaries are the Žeimena, Šventoji, Vokė and Bražuolė. Since the Kaunas hydroelectric dam was built, fish that migrate from the sea to spawn (salmon, vimba) spawn in the Neris and its tributaries.
